Spiritual Formation

"We nurture the life of each individual"

Spiritual formation is...

...the activity of the Holy Spirit that molds our lives into the likeness of Jesus Christ. This likeness is one of deep inticmacy with God and genuine compassion for all of creation. The Spirit works not only in the lives of individuals but also in the church, shaping it into the body of Christ. We cooperate with this work of the spirit through certain practices that make us more open and responsive to the Spirit's touch, disciplines such as:

  • Sabbath keeping
  • works of compassion and justice
  • discernment
  • worship
  • Scripture study
  • hospitality
  • spiritual friendships
  • and contemplative silence.

(From Hungryhearts, Spring 2008)

A recent series of spiritual formation groups met weekly to share the Companions in Christ series published by The Upper Room. New groups form as there is intereest. Some groups continue with the Companions in Christ materials, and others use other formats. If you are interested in a small group experience of spiritual formation and exploration, please speak with one of our pastors.
