In the spring of 1845, a new church building was begun at the site of the present building. It fronted on Washington Street and a bell hung from its white steeple. The previous building was sold to the Baptist Church at that time.
In March 1878, the lecture room was opened for services, but the building was not dedicated until June 5, 1881. It had cost nearly $19,000 but was free of debt.
